Centuries after her mysterious disappearance, the Blood Countess (Isabelle Huppert) reappears in modern-day Vienna. According to legend, she was one of the most prolific female vampires of the 16th century, feasting on maids by the dozen. Together with her loyal maid Hermine (Birgit Minichmayr), she sets out to track down a dangerous book that has the power to destroy all evil—including vampires. But her rivals are also after the book: an alliance of vegetarians and law enforcement agencies wants to apprehend her and her Viennese vampire gang. And a conference of narrow-minded humanities scholars is even planning to analyze the “identity of vampires in the age of their digital reproducibility.” The Blood Countess, however, is not one to be studied; she’d much rather embark on a scavenger hunt of her own through Vienna’s magnificent historic sites.
