Mittagswolf x Cineville Preview: La Bola Negra

534291

Starting in November, Wednesdays will be cinema days: Every Wednesday at Mittagswolf, we’ll be showing a (sneak) preview of a film that will soon be opening in theaters. Before the screening, you can fuel up with Machiko’s lunch, or rewind afterward in our cozy café-bar with some coffee and cake.

On November 18, we’re teaming up with Cineville and Pandora to show you La Bola Negra by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo - one day before its official theatrical release. This epic story, spanning nearly 100 years and four queer love affairs, won the Best Director award at Cannes and is Spain’s 2027 Oscar nominee. If you book with your Cineville subscription, you can bring +1 for free!

A cinematic triptych about three gay men in Spain during the Civil War, whose life stories are intertwined. Sensual, surreal, and ecstatic, La Bola Negra explores identity, desire, and political divide - and how the shadows of the past extend into the present. Inspired by one of Federico García Lorca’s final, unfinished works, the film becomes a long-lingering plea against fascism.
