Benzin & Discussion with Oliver Mohr and Kate Molchanova

166215

The graduation film BENZIN by Oliver Mohr (HFF Munich) tells the story of two people who want to leave their homeland and meet each other in the process. Sasha (Kate Molchanova) from Ukraine arrives in a small town on the Polish border, which Leon (Bela Gabor Lenz) wants to leave as soon as possible.

Three years after the shooting, facing the terrible war in Ukraine, we look at the story of the film with different eyes: not the character Sasha, but the actress Kate has left her homeland. Together with the director she will attend the screening and be available for a talk afterwards.

SYNOPSIS

Gasoline evaporates at room temperature. Leon can't evaporate, he's still here. At a gas station where no one fills up. In a deserted village on the border, between brother and father who talk but say nothing.

A young woman arrives at the station, but does not want to stay long. Ukrainian Sasha has been placed as a nanny with a rich family seeking temporary peace in the countryside.

The film tells of encounters between characters who helplessly try to get something from each other, but cannot find a common language for it. Only between Leon and Sascha a small parallel world is built up, a flight from reality with a hint of closeness, but it does not last long. Is now the right time to leave?
