My Wife Cries
-
A typical workday on the construction site. Thomas, a 40-year-old crane operator, receives a call from his wife Carla asking him to pick her up at the hospital. There he finds her in tears and learns that she was in a car accident. Carla tells him about her dance partner David, with whom she had planned to look at a house in the countryside and who was killed in the accident. She tries to tell her husband everything openly and honestly, but Thomas withdraws more and more into himself. They don’t understand each other.
Following Music, Angela Schanelec has created a film that is as direct as it is poetic, one that explores language on multiple levels. A snapshot of life in the big city, full of beauty and sorrow. The film premieres in the competition section of the 76th Berlinale.
