Queen is a strong-willed woman who struggles to make ends meet with her two children in 1990s Nairobi. She forms an unexpected and extraordinary friendship with Anna, an Irish correspondent. When it becomes clear that Queen has AIDS, Anna helps her gain access to treatment. Queen survives, while her friends and neighbors continue to die from the effects of the infection. Her survival becomes a calling for her: she begins to fight against injustice.
