ALFILM: The Lions By The River Tigris

-

The liberation of Mosul from years of control under ISIS has left the historic city in rubble. As its inhabitants return to the ruins to glean whatever is left of their previous existences, ideals begin to clash. Fakhri, an eccentric antiques collector, becomes enamored with the elaborate lion-decorated marble arch of fisherman Bashar's historic childhood home. He tries to acquire it by any means possible as Bashar must decide between retaining his heritage and securing his financial future. The Lions By The River Tigris explores the tragic state of Mosul's historic center through a memorable cast of protagonists as they navigate their plans for the remains of the city's rich legacy that is in equal measures hilarious and heartbreaking.

The film has participated in several international film festivals, including Doc NYC and DOK Leipzig.
