Iron Boy

-

OT: Le Corset

Eleven-year-old Christophe’s world is out of balance—in the truest sense of the word. Not only because he keeps falling over without warning, but also because his family’s farm in rural France is struggling financially. A medically prescribed support brace is supposed to strengthen his spine and prevent sudden falls. While his strict father is annoyed that his son can no longer help with the harvest, the brace—despite all the initial difficulties—represents a chance at freedom for Christophe. Instead of working in the wheat fields, he is now assigned to serve as an altar boy at the local church. Against all expectations, he discovers his love for music there, learns to play the organ, and loses himself completely in its soft, ethereal sounds. When the rebellious teenager Clara enters his life, Christophe learns how even a detour can lead him back on the right path. The hand-drawn and captivating film*Iron Boy* (directed by Louis Clichy) tells the story of a boy who has yet to find his inner and outer balance. Director Louis Clichy, who himself had to wear a corrective brace as a child, has created a poetic coming-of-age film that is unique in its visual lightness.

Iron Boy celebrated its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was highly praised by critics and audiences alike and won the Special Jury Prize in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section. At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, it was the big winner, taking home three awards.
