The films of the directing duo of Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne almost constitute a genre of their own. This is their twelfth feature film, and it’s about two young African migrants, fleeing to Europe via boat, who pretend to be brother and sister. But their goal of getting a permanent residence permit is far away, and the bureaucratic pitfalls are just as dangerous as the risk of getting used or abused. Once again it’s near impossible to resist the maelstrom of the typical Dardenne style with its meticulously observed social realism.
