Bird
-
Bailey (Nykiya Adams) lives with her father Bug (Barry Keoghan) in a squat in Kent, near London. Instead of looking after Bailey, Bug prefers to focus on his latest business idea when he's not partying the night away coked up: he wants to develop a hallucinogenic super drug from the secretion of a special South American toad and sell it at a high price. After running away from home in a row, Bailey meets the strange Bird (Franz Rogowski), who comes out of nowhere in somersaults and a pleated skirt. In a world where no one cares about her, Bird becomes Bailey's closest confidant.
In BIRD, which celebrated its world premiere in competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Andrea Arnold (FISH TANK, AMERICAN HONEY) tells a touching and poetic story that falls somewhere between fairy tale and drama.
Arnold grapples with the very real dilemma of how to keep one’s senses, and spirit, alive, against uncertainty and pain. - Sight and Sound
