Astrakan 79
-
1979. Flicking through pictures from a Soviet magazine, 15-year-old Martin dreams of building a new society. His radical communist parents send him to study at Astrakan for one year. Martin travels to Moscow, crosses the Volga delta by train to Astrakan. This will become an initiatory journey for him. He feels lost, falls in love several times, droppes out of school, sleeps in street benches and sells all his records and blue jeans. The communist ideal instilled by his parents gets lost along the way. Forty years later, in this film, Martin decides to tell his story to his son for the first time, a story that has been a family taboo until today.
Shown and awarded at numerous international film festivals, including the award for best director at the IndieLisboa 2023 festival.
