KineKiez: Redupers + Talk with Helke Sander

442766

With the closure of the Filmhaus on Potsdamer Platz, the Deutsche Kinemathek, along with Arsenal and the dffb, has also left its long-standing location and moved into the E-Werk on Mauerstraße in January. To ensure that the film treasures of the Kinemathek remain visible, four Berlin cinemas take turns showing films from its archive in the monthly “KineKiez” series. We are joined by Bundesplatz Kino, Kino Krokodil and Sinema Transtopia.

As a tribute to the feminist pioneer Helke Sander, who turns 88 in January, we have selected her classic The All-Round Reduced Personality - Redupers (Die allseitig reduzierte Persönlichkeit - Redupers) to kick off the series. The story of Edda Chiemnyjewski, a single, precariously employed photographer who has to juggle a child, assignments and male demands, is not only a commentary on the realities of female life that is still relevant today. The film is also an impressive document of Berlin. With great self-irony, Helke Sander, who plays the leading role herself, tells of a divided life in a divided city.

We are delighted to welcome Helke Sander for a talk after the screening!
