This week, we have a great new film in our programme: WESTERN! Here's what The Criterion Collection'sAndrew Chan wrote about it: „WESTERN (...) was the one film at TIFF that struck me immediately as a masterpiece”. We're showing Valeska Grisebachs beautiful contemplation about "the state of the European Union, the fraught dynamics of homosocial bonding; and the joys and perils of interpersonal exchange in the absence of a shared language" (also Criterion Collection) with English subtitles twice a day starting Thursday. Don't miss!
Also, Tom Lass is coming back this week (Saturday, 7.30pm) for a Q+A after his film BLIND & HÄSSLICH, and this time we're showing it with English subtitles!
If you haven't seen KEDI yet, run to catch this doc about wild cat life in Istanbul today or tomorrow. We still keep our own film IN THE LAST DAYS OF THE CITY and are thrilled by the popular demand! It's also out in the UK now, so if you are there or have friends in London, Brighton, Liverpool, Newcastle or Manchester tell them to hurry to the screens :) and if you want, you can send virtual postcards to share the emotions of the film.
In other news, our Wolf Edition 3 "Undertones – Colour in Film" is starting soon! We're devoting October and November to the emotional and sensory workings of colour in film: with a series of lectures and film screenings, with a masterclass and a workshop about colour grading, and with two residencies at Wolf – one for a filmmaker, one for a painter. You can already save the date for our big opening night!
In the opening discussion we will use various cinematic examples to examine the ways colour can cause an aesthetic breakdown of reality. Guests are the film scholars Friederike Horstmann, Christine Noll Brinckmann and Sulgi Lie.
