After the Berlin autumn holidays have finished, our group of pupils from the neighbouring Albert Schweitzer school has come back to Wolf to learn more about films and cinema. Yesterday, our friends from LABOR BERLIN came by to shoot, develop and screen 8mm film with them! It was great fun to watch fascination with analogue film grow in front of our eyes (see pics on cover image).
Today our studio is yet again hosting filmmakers, with our 4 day colour grading workshop. All seats have been filled and in the next days the participants will learn from colour grader Jorge Piquer Rodriguez how to calibrate monitors, how to prepare footage for grading, how to correct exposure and colour errors, but also how to create a certain atmosphere and how to support a poetic narrative by grading. At the end, director Thomas Moritz Helm will come by with his new film BEFORE WE GROW OLD to colour grade it live.
Jorge is also giving an introduction into Paul Thomas Anderson PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE(in English), with which we are closing our film series revolving around the uses of colour in film. Sunday, 8pm! "Undertones - colour in film" is supported by Senatskanzlei - Kulturelle Angelegenheiten / Spartenübergreifende Förderung künstlerischer und kultureller Projekte.
Our new film this week is DIE LIEBHABERIN (Spanish with German subtitles) which we already showed as a preview with Q&A a few weeks ago. If you've always wondered what might happen when you have a rich gated community on one side of an electrical fence and on the other a swinging nudist colony: this is your film.
We will also show Nicolas Wackerbarth's CASTING with English subtitles from Thursday! It's a satire of work on a film set, but it is also a very precise observation of dynamics between people and the egos that get in the way. Wackerbarth is coming to Wolf today for a Q+A at 7.30pm, together with actor Andreas Lust.
Also don't forget our documentary focus this Wednesday is on Roser Correllas captivating GRAB AND RUN, about bridenapping in Kyrgistan.
On Monday (Nov 13), we have a literature reading at the studio, in cooperation with Verbrecher Verlag: Jovana Reisinger is coming to read from her debut novel "Still halten". We start at 7pm!
As a preview we want to already tell you abour our Glawogger weekend! Together with UNTITLED, we will show two of his earlier works, WORKINGMAN'S DEATH ("5 images about work") and MEGACITIES ("12 stories about survival"), on the 18th and 19th of November (both with English subtitles!)
Find Machiko's delicious Japanese lunch menu here or in our new edition of the gazette! You will find edition number two at our café from tomorrow (look out for the beautiful inlay)!
