With Howling Wolf: Festival for Film-Music-Performance, Wolf Kino emphasizes its self-conception as a multidisciplinary venue and performative space.
Since the beginning, we cultivated a direct relationship to various art forms, and so we have developed a wide-spread network of musicians and artists, with whom we now want to open up new ways of aesthetic, emotional and contemporary access to film and music.
As a centerpiece of our festival over 8 weeks in June and July we will invite musicians to explore a variety of cinematic narratives - from avantgarde silent films to contemporary experimental films. For the duration of one week each of the musicians will investigate their specific approach to the topic and to the emotionality of the films and work on their own musical-performative concept. It is not about the composition or production of music for film, but about exploring what is possible with music and sound in relation to film. The audience can observe the process, the examination and rapprochement of film and music in public rehearsals as well as it can indulge in the final performative performances. We want to create a space for both the musicians and the audience that invites to explore new perceptions and perspectives on the relationship between film and music.
Accompanying the performances, public lectures, discussions and workshops take place in our studio, which raise awareness of the manifold forms of relationships between sound and moving images.
The Digital Stage of Howling Wolf: Festival for Film-Music-Performance provides a globally accessible platform where work processes, concert recordings, sound recordings, interviews, as well as our accompanying programme will be published.
Wolf Kino will continue to keep an eye on the dynamics between the two arts beyond the duration of the festival with further future projects.
